The Christmas Post

Sorry about the uninspiring title. No light bulbs went off, this year, to inspire a catchy one.

I’ve been asked to take pictures at Stephanie and Michael’s wedding in June.  I figure that I don’t want our grandchildren to someday look at their parent’s wedding pictures and wonder why their grandparents didn’t spring for a real photographer.  So, I’ve been hard at work (reading a few photography blogs) learning how to get my camera to take some pictures that our grandchildren can be proud of.   One of the many things I’ve learned is that photography is all about LIGHT and using it to get the pictures you envision.  If you don’t make good use of the light your pictures may someday be an embarrassment to your grandchildren.

Christmas is also about light.  Big time.  There was, of course, the light from the Star in the East that guided the Magi to the Little Town of Bethlehem, but also Jesus, Himself, is LIGHT. He said in John 8:12, “I am the light of the world.  Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

Who would have thought that tiny little baby lying in a hay holder (the original King Size Bed) was destined to be the Light of the World. Our Savior. God in the Flesh. The King of Kings.  And He wants to give us the Light of Life. Although He never promised we’d be great photographers, nothing we can ever go through will ever be bigger than He is.

That's very good to know when Christmas Eve is minutes away,  you still have 45 presents to wrap,  19 sewing projects to do and the sewing machine won’t work, a Christmas blog post to write, laundry to be done, and you have the FLU, not to mention if you’ve watched anything on the news lately. He’s bigger than all of it, and I’m not worried (much).

We want to wish you all a very enlightened Christmas and coming New Year.  And, if you’re into that sort of thing, try your hand at learning how to use Light to create better pictures. But, a much more important thing to learn is how to use The Light of the World for the life that you were created to live, because If you mess that up you’re likely to have much bigger problems than embarrassing your grandchildren.

Merry Christmas!

There will be family pictures of our Christmas celebration in the next few days when we are all together.

Jesus, Friend of Sinners by Casting Crowns

Jesus, friend of sinners, we have strayed so far away
We cut down people in your name but the sword was never ours to swing
Jesus, friend of sinners, the truth's become so hard to see
The world is on their way to You but they're tripping over me
Always looking around but never looking up I'm so double minded
A plank eyed saint with dirty hands and a heart divided

Oh Jesus, friend of sinners
Open our eyes to the world at the end of our pointing fingers
Let our hearts be led by mercy
Help us reach with open hearts and open doors
Oh Jesus, friend of sinners, break our hearts for what breaks yours http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B9Kcm2OAWNA
