Who Says We Don't Travel?

When friends and family tell us about trips and cruises they have planned, our unspoken reaction is probably the same as their spoken reaction each time we have announced the addition of another child to our family, " We're very happy for you, but we're glad it's not us"!

For the most part, Doug and I just aren't travelers, and we aren't afraid to admit it. Maybe that's not normal, and we should be in a support group or something, but we we really don't feel that it affects our quality of life.  At.  All.

We have had some very nice short trips that have been just what we needed. Our 30th anniversary get away last year was perfect.

And, not to brag, but just today Doug and I ventured across the water and visited IKEA!

IKEA is almost like visiting another country because all their product names are in Swedish, and we had Swedish Meatballs for lunch. Really!

We had a great time being together and still got home in time to sleep in our own bed.  The best of both worlds. Who could ask for more!

 We love our home, but we know there is a new, perfect, and permanent home waiting for us. Our lives are really one long journey on the road to our home in Heaven (we just prefer to travel it without public transportation and strange beds) In the meantime we feel like we are very blessed on this side of Heaven.

So whether we are at home or away, we make it our aim to please him.

Safe at last. We hope!

Since the Eagle attack, Doug has worked tirelessly for the last week making a new, safe home for our nine surviving ducks.

 Today, they have officially entered the Witness Protection Program for Poultry and have relocated to their, hopefully, safe haven (the location of which I an not at liberty to disclose because, you can't be too careful with those Eagles, not to mention the coyotes and the sneaky neighbor dog).

They appear to be pretty happy campers!

Frost on the Daffodils?

 Isn't the frost supposed to be on the pumpkin?

The daffodils are blooming, the calendar says it's spring...............

 But the thermometer says it's 29 degrees!!

I'm blaming it on the Eagles!

2012 Spring Choir Concert

Sadly, Evonne was MIA with a bad cough, but Alanna did a great job performing with her choir last night in the Spring concert.

COMBO PARTY

The Bacon Cheeseburger Pizza.  Yes, those are pickles! There were mixed opinions on this.

 Two very difficult photographic subjects, but we love them anyway!

Happy Birthdays, Guys! We love you both!

UNWELCOME GUESTS!

Mr. and/or Mrs. Eagle, you should be ashamed!  I'm sorry, but you are no longer worthy of the honor of being our National Bird.  We used to love watching you soar above our house with your white head and tail reflecting the sunlight.  Now we (and our ducks) live in fear of your presence. Our forefathers should have listened to Benjamin Franklin when he lobbied for the Wild Turkey to be given the honor of National Bird. For shame!

Over the past few days we have had several unwelcome visits from several very aggressive and apparently hungry Bald Eagles.

The first visit ended in two non-life threatening  injuries.

The second visit ended in a fatality! We'll miss you Jake the Drake!

On their third visit they met with some interference in the form of flagging tape and string criss-crossing the ducks new (temporary) home, so they left empty taloned. We are hoping that will discourage any further attempts. Eagles are very well protected by our government, so they can pretty much do anything they want, and there really is nothing else we can do to protect our ducks from them.

Wouldn't it be wonderful if our government took protecting their CHILDREN as seriously as they take protecting their Eagles? The Eagle is no longer an endangered species but there are many children who are. Plus, they are a whole lot cuter!

 but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength;
    they shall mount up with wings like eagles;
they shall run and not be weary;
    they shall walk and not faint.

Isaiah 40:31

Jesus, Friend of Sinners by Casting Crowns

Jesus, friend of sinners, we have strayed so far away
We cut down people in your name but the sword was never ours to swing
Jesus, friend of sinners, the truth's become so hard to see
The world is on their way to You but they're tripping over me
Always looking around but never looking up I'm so double minded
A plank eyed saint with dirty hands and a heart divided

Oh Jesus, friend of sinners
Open our eyes to the world at the end of our pointing fingers
Let our hearts be led by mercy
Help us reach with open hearts and open doors
Oh Jesus, friend of sinners, break our hearts for what breaks yours http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B9Kcm2OAWNA
